The 70's

Hans Weyh was employed by the Board of Directors in November 1970, replacing another temporary club manager, Canny Villegas. Greens Committee Chairman, Bob Mallin, announced that an unnamed member had contributed a group of trees in that year. In May, the Rabbinical Society of Kansas City took Oakwood to task for scheduling a dance on a Friday night.

In 1974, the property to the north was soldto the Spofford Home for $66,000.

The club, in 1975, was offered 20 acres to the south of the eleventh green along Grandview Road for $16,500 an acre—an offer it could and did refuse.

The beginning of happiness for Oakwood golfers was surely 1973, when zoysia stripping of fairways began. After 60 years of struggling, the transformation to today’s velvety green carpets began.
